Meet RCYC’s Junior Sailing Program Manager and Coach, Hunter Farris.
Hunter is a certified level 2 US Sailing coach and has been a sail instructor and coach since 2002 at Edgewater Yacht Club in Cleveland, Ohio. At Edgewater, Hunter introduced advanced techniques including both fleet and team racing to intermediate and advanced sailors. He taught on Optimists, Lasers, FJs, 420 and Thistle sailboats. He grew the Optimist racing program and coached the Edgewater Opti team to 1st 3rd and 6th place finishes in the Travelers Series, a divisional summer series.
Hunter, himself, was also a successful junior sailor. He was named Edgewater’s Yacht Club Outstanding Junior Sailor. He won the I-LYA Jr Bay week in the commodore series in FJ’s and he placed 12th in 420 nationals. Hunter recently graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges where he received a BA double major in Architectural Studies and Art History and a minor in Studio Art. At Hobart, Hunter was a four year varsity sailor. During the period Hunter was in attendance, Hobart’s Coed Sailing team consistently ranked as one of the top ten teams in the nation. Hunter was a part of 2004-2005 team that won both the Team Race National Championship as well as Fleet Race National Championship. He was also part of the team that placed third in team racing at Nationals in 2006 and 2007. This is Hunters second season with Rush Creek Yacht Club.
