Junior Sailing Program

Latest News:

RCYC  “Creeker” sailing is a year-round program for juniors between the ages of 8 and 17 with an interest in developing racing skills in boats ranging from single-handed dinghies to keel boats. There is also focus on developing future leaders as the older juniors help coach and mentor  beginning sailors.

Younger sailors will start in the Optimist dinghy and then move into Lasers or Sunfish for single-handed racing and the JY-15 or Club 420 for double-handed racing as they get older and develop skills. Junior racers participate in events at RCYC as well as on the Texas Sailing Association (TSA) and MetroPlex Sailing Association (MSA) circuits.

Juniors also have the opportunity to compete at the national level in US Sailing junior championship events.  The Creeker program relies heavily on volunteers for all aspects of the program including event planning, curriculum development, and coaching (on and off the water). Parents with juniors in the program are expected to contribute.
