J22 World Champs!
(Friday, July 23, 2021) Great news out of Corpus Christi Yacht Club! Jeff Progelhof and his crew of Rod Favela and Paul Foerster have topped the fleet of 42 boats to win the 2021 J22 World Championship! Jeff and his team (that also included Kenny Wolfe) practiced hard all year and won several Southwest Circuit regattas. Kenny was injured right before the Worlds and Paul Forester stepped in to do bow. Rod Favela moved back to the trimmer position. This regatta was the first time these three raced together in that configuration. Well done Team!
RCYC had two other teams in the event. Bill Draheim with his son Stewart Draheim, Mary Anne Hopper and Mike Brown had a very competitive regatta as well finishing 9th overall. Ryan Schwend with his crew of Tim Johnson and Victoria Hielscher finished 37th.
This is the third J22 World Championship Team to bring the trophy home to Rush Creek Yacht Club. Rob Johnston with John Skiles and Stephen Andre did it in 2011. Paul Foerster was Worlds Champion in 1996.
Cheers to the Victors!
